In 2005 Flight Timbers Ltd started processing from their new mill in
Blenheim which can produce 35-55,000 m3 of sawn timber per year on a single shift basis.
Emphasis is on grade cutting of pruned and small knot logs complemented by kiln drying,
machining, finger jointing, laminating, and CCA and LOSP timber treatment. High value
radiata timbers are exported to Australia, Asia and Europe as well as sold in New Zealand.
The Nelson Forests Ltd. Kaituna Mill has a log
input capacity on a single shift of 85 000m3 log input per year producing 48,500 m3 of sawn timber per year. The mills
production is focused on pruned logs from forests in Nelson and Marlborough. The mill
exports most of its products, including mouldings and shop grade products, to the United
States, F7 into Australia and appearance grade to Asia with the balance being sold into
the important domestic market.
The smaller, lower quality logs and wood-chips derived from sawmill
offcuts can be processed at Nelson Pine Industries MDF plant in Nelson. This plant
comprises three MDF lines and a Laminated Veneer Lumber plant.
Post and pole material can be processed at the Goldpine plant at Golden
Downs Forest, 120 kilometres west of Blenheim. Goldpine has grown into one of New
Zealand's largest producers of posts and poles utilising state of the art equipment and
technology. |
