Climate

Marlborough's climate varies widely from temperate rainforest in parts of the Marlborough Sounds through to more arid areas such as the Awatere Valley and Marlborough's east coast. The long-term rainfall average is 649mm per annum, but it is not uncommon for Blenheim to have at least 284 days of the year with less than 1mm of rain.

Production forestry is concentrated in the higher rainfall areas. It is important to carefully consider rainfall and the selection of timber species before embarking on a forestry investment.
